World CleanUp Day is an annual global initiative aimed at raising awareness about environmental pollution issues and organizing mass cleanups in communities worldwide. It takes place on the third Saturday of September and brings together millions of people from different countries who go to the streets, beaches, parks, and other public places to pick up trash and contribute to protecting the planet.

History
World CleanUp Day was initiated in 2008 in Estonia by the "Let’s Do It! World" movement. That year, around 50,000 Estonians united for a mass cleanup of their country. The campaign was so successful that it inspired many other countries to carry out similar actions.

Events
In each country, the events are held in their own way, depending on local conditions and supporting organizations. However, the main idea remains the same—on the designated day, volunteers gather for mass cleanups. Here’s how the day typically unfolds:

Event Organization. Several weeks before the event, campaigns are organized to attract participants, areas for cleanup are identified, and necessary tools such as gloves, trash bags, and recycling containers are prepared.

Trash Collection. On the day of the event, thousands of people gather at pre-arranged locations and begin cleaning. Special attention is given to polluted areas such as parks, streets, and river and ocean shores.

Waste Sorting and Disposal. Trash is not just collected, but also sorted for subsequent recycling. This is an important part of the initiative aimed at reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills.

Educational Events. In addition to cleanups, events are organized to increase environmental awareness, where ecological issues and solutions are discussed.

World CleanUp Day is a global movement that helps unite people to protect the planet from pollution.
